Garmin StreetPilot 27x0 The “How-To” Guide to
Garmin's Premium Automotive Navigation System (Including Tips, Tricks, and Undocumented Features) The Garmin StreetPilot 2720 was
introduced in 2005 as the successor to the popular StreetPilot 26x0 series of
automotive navigation systems. The
2720 has the same footprint and basic appearance of the 26x0 units, but has a
completely new user interface and several major new features. New to the 27x0 series are a
3D perspective map display, Text-To-Speech pronunciation of street and
location names and the availability to receive broadcasted traffic
information. The 2730 model adds XM
radio, XM traffic, and MP3 music features. One of the strengths of the
product’s technology is its software platform, which is upgradeable, and is
common to both the 2720 and the 2730.
While this site is focused on the 2720, most of the information here is
valid for 2730, and may also be valid for the 7200 and 7500 units, which use
the common software platform. Not
addressed (currently) are features that are unique to the 2730. This site is a work in
progress. Each of the links below
covers a different area of interest.
More links with additional information will be added very soon, so
please check back. Note: All techniques are based on unit software
releases 4.54-6.20, and MapSource versions 6.9.1-6.11.3. Available Topics Display and Function Shortcuts
