Customizing the Map Data Fields

In addition to the graphical map itself, the map screen provides information in the form of data boxes (fields) at the top and/or right side of the screen.  The map display has two distinct modes and the displayed information is different for each.  These are the a) Navigation mode and b) Non-navigation mode.  The data fields can be customized to provide your preference of information, which can include a combination of several other available items in predefined layouts.

When you are navigating a route (i.e. the unit is providing turn-by-turn instructions), you will see data specific to Navigation mode.  With the factory default settings, this mode displays the next street to turn on (across the top of the screen), the direction of the next turn, the current speed and the estimated arrival time.

When you are not navigating a route (i.e. you are just driving and not getting instructions from the unit), the default display provides the upcoming street, the direction of travel (i.e. N, S, etc.), the current speed and the current time.

Note: When you choose to customize the map data fields, there is no option to display data across the top of the screen, or to display the next turn arrow as in the default configuration.  However, in the custom mode, a special next turn arrow will appear on the left side of the display when approaching a turn.

To customize the map data fields:

  1. Go to the main menu, then select Settings --> Map --> Map Data Fields.

  2. Select the size of the data fields (which will apply to both the Navigation and Non-navigation modes).  The options are:

    • Normal:  Display the default (non-customized) data fields

    • None:  Do not display any data except the graphical map

    • Thin:  Display thin data fields in the rightmost 25% of the screen

    • Wide:  Display wide data fields over the right half of the screen

  3. If you select Thin or Wide, you will then continue to configure the following:

  4. Touch Next and select the first of the data fields to be displayed while navigating a route (Navigation mode).   (You will be able to select up to 4 items).  The number you can will depend on the height setting (which you will configure next).  The available data items are:

    • Address:  Street address at current location

    • Arrival Distance:  Distance to the planned destination

    • Arrival Time:  Estimated time of day when you will arrive at your planned destination

    • Current Location (Wide tabs only):  Coordinates of current location

    • Dist To Turn:  Distance to the next turn

    • Elevation, feet:  Current elevation above sea level, in feet

    • Elevation, meters:  Current elevation above sea level, in meters

    • Heading:  Compass heading (N, S, etc.)

    • Mileage Log:  Miles on the selected mileage log (A, B, C or D)

    • Next Turn:  Upcoming turn; street or exit (or name of upcoming street in non-navigation mode)

    • Odometer:  Mileage on the main unit odometer

    • Satellite Status:  Signal strength or acquisition status

    • Speed:  Current speed of travel

    • Time of Day:  Current time

    • Turn Time:  Estimated time until next turn

  5. Select the layout of the data field by pressing the +/- buttons to select one of the predefined options.  A given option may be single height or double height, and may include one or more additional data items (from the above list). The following links show available combinations for Navigation Mode:

  1. Touch one or more of the remaining data field buttons to configure each.

  2. Touch Next and configure the data fields to be displayed while not navigating a route.  For each field you will also select the layout.  The following links show available combinations for Non-navigation Mode:

  1. Touch one or more of the remaining data field buttons to configure each.

  2. Touch Finish to complete the configuration.
