David Mamet

Teaches Dramatic Writing

Write great drama

David Mamet sat in on a poker game full of thieves and left with the inspiration for American Buffalo. Now, the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer of Glengarry Glen Ross takes you through his process for turning life's strangest moments into dramatic art. He'll teach you the rules of drama, the nuances of dialogue, and the skills to develop your own voice and create your masterpiece.

Lesson Plan

Playwriting and screenwriting can be an overwhelming process; Mamet's metaphors and breakdown of the craft was accessible, thought provoking, and inspiring.

J.R. Roseis a theater teacher, director, and playwright from Illinois, who has directed shows internationally.

His mannerisms color his tales, leaving no doubt that you're dealing with an artist. Always prescient and never pedantic, he is a man who loves to teach.

J.C. Collieris an experienced writer from Florida. He has written screenplays and short stories, and recently started a novel.

This class is fast-paced and instantly applicable. The core concepts are primal; I recognized them in Mamet's work and how to apply them to my own projects.

Brennan Roachis an experienced actor, director, and educator from Chicago. He is a student in David Mamet's MasterClass.

Having dipped into a few of the standard screenwriting books, it was infinitely more helpful to be guided through the plotting process by David Mamet himself.

Oliver Maltmanis a professional actor and writer from London. He has appeared in three Oscar-nominated films.
