What are we going to study in these master classes? We're going to talk about harmony, we're going to talk about melody. We're going to talk about clusters. We're going to talk about chord voicings, counter rhythms, and looking at one's own ability to develop one's own sound, and the appreciation of a more expansive view of music. I think if you can walk away with that kind of feeling, then I think these lessons will have been a success. I hope that, with this class, you might be able to walk away with a sense of wonder about possibilities of choices of your own. And I hope you walk away excited about trying new things. I can't do it for you. I'm not you. And you don't want to sound like me, you want to sound like you. So it's up to you to really take the ball from here and create the game yourself. I'm Herbie Hancock, and this is my master class.

Loved the study on voicings. Very cool way of viewing chord structures.

I am Looking Forward Learning From The Masters!

It’s a miracle to meet and learn from a jazz legend who determine the direction of music. I’d like to hear him play the Petrof piano with M. Vitous.

Absolutely fascinating. This was one of the most insightful conversations I have experienced on this site. As a writer, I feel nurtured. This is it.

I love how he speaks about authentisity. I find it takes great courage to be willing to brake the molds at times, as you search for your own soul's truth. For me its about really listening to the music and seeing where the emotional rsonance leads me. Personally, for growth's sake, its about finding those sweet improvisations, without disruping the collective chi of the song, unless and when we all agree as a group, to stretch ourselves beyond what we thought was either allowed or acceptable. As a self taught drummer, its about intuitively knowing when to do so, and when to fall back and just hold a sacred space for others .

I Like the Jazz aspect, but is there any mode specific to bass? I'd like to get a lot better.

Many of these classes offer nothing a beginner can grasp let alone work with. The fact they ask what level you are is irrelevant as the class offers only one setting.

I had to take this MasterClaass. I don't mean I was forced, or required, to take it....I mean this is the one that I was looking for all along. I started composing about a year and a half ago, and I've dabbled in various genres. But I noticed that regardless of the genre, if I incorporated some jazz, I was on my game. I have a good feeling about this MasterClass.

Hi Mayuko, I arrived at the ninth lesson but I stopped at the eighth lesson to deepen the practice by playing the piano with piano arpeggios scales etc .. as Herbie says. I have to do a lot of exercise .... I also practice English with translating :)) now it's a little bit better;))

This experience with Mr. Herbie Hancock will be a dream come true. I am so grateful that Mr. Hancock is sharing his gift here with me and with others. I am looking forward to interacting with others as well. I am very excited to get back fully into playing piano and learning Jazz that I have always been wanting to for almost 30 years. Thank you for this opportunity!

I just love Herbie Hancock, always have, always will. Been listening to his music all my life and although he wasn't playing with them at the time had the chance to hear live one of his early bands, the Head Hunters at the Basement in Sydney, Australia.

Everything that Herbie says is very interesting and enriching, I'm Italian and sometimes I have a bit of difficulty in the translation :))

First video already, Herbie sounds very genuine, talented and artistic! Love it already. Looking forward to going deeper into the rest of the course.
