Now that my master class is complete, I hope you'll be inspired to pursue your love for fashion, your interest in design, and it will inspire you to create and explore your thoughts, your dreams, and live them. I would encourage you to ask questions, to use every tool imaginable, to get information, to learn about what it is that you want to do and how you want to say it, and to use every resource that's available to you, to be-- take risks, to be fearless, and to open a dialogue with anybody you can to get information, to share your thoughts, and to learn new things. That's what I would suggest. Love what you do, and never stop doing it.

Create your own trends

Marc Jacobs’s infamous grunge collection got him fired. It also won him the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. In his first online fashion design class, the 11-time CFDA Award winner teaches his hands-on process for creating clothes that push boundaries and set trends. Learn Marc’s construction techniques, how he creates unique shapes and silhouettes, and how you can develop your own ideas from the first sketch to the final piece.

Learned a lot. Totally appreciated Marc talking about how he got the opportunities of working at LVMH and all the experiences and anecdotes of what he had to do (and still does) to get into the industry and keep up with it. I'm probably not designing soon, but with these fundamentals I can take my own approach and try to find direction on the set of skill I want to put in use.

I loved this class! It really helped me understand the concept of putting a show together.

As a fashion design student, and model, this masterclass is such an inspiration, getting to understand the process of a designer and the way Marc included the whole production team into it, I am amzed by the clarity and facility of masterclass and very thakfull.

I am not interested in designing clothes. I took the course because I wanted to see how Marc's approach and creative process compared to my own. Watching his story has given me more confidence that I am capable of achieving my own creative goals.

Wonderful experience we had ! thank you from deep heart Marc Jacobs. You are a generous genius. At the end, I feel more confortable and secure to invest the Brazilian market where I live (Rio de J), with is 40 years back ... "atraso". I really ignore why that market is so apart and late to innovate. Big latin ego here ... or it could be because of high rates of taxes to import. Local production is very inventive and quality not so bad. My idea to develop an honest local casual brand inspired from Helicopter spirit is ready and I am just finalizing the processes. We use a lot and we have no collection adapted for men. I would like dear Marc you to speak about parfume market and accessories : belts, shoes, caps, etc ... My idea came from my own necessity to find good taste casual clothes, adapted to my life like are Diésel to Lacoste brands for me. I am not so rich but here in Brazil they cost over 200% of US price. It is a lot with the difference of level of life. Visiting factories in Brazil, the idea of buying casual models and just put my name on it turned an habit, even when I buy other designers products. When I ask for hand made clothes on measure items, I pray my employees to put off the brand and sew mine. I customized my all wardrobe ... I feel confortable with my universe of very basic causal articles, their good quality and an honest taste I prefer to originality. Thank you Marc for inspiring me, your are not only a good designer, you are a really good person and gave me motivation to be a better designer and man, as well go ahead in my project. From my deep heart, thanks. You are a king ! A king of heart !

This is my collection, consists of three shirts (cotton 97%) and my unique pure silk scarves. I designed six scarves, inspired by beauty of science. Thanks for Marc's lessons. It was an inspiring adventure.

I like to say that "A good Teacher never fails to Inspire and drive his students to follow their dreams." I enjoyed every class and I am more aware than before. I love the Pattern Maker Cad software because I enjoy sewing clothes. I think it is a better version of what I was doing all this time and much easier. Previously I drafted the patterns following different books that are also good like the Zarapkars Method of cutting. I also understood that marketing oneself play a vital role in getting noticed and making sales. Marc does it very well. I subscribed to his site and every email give a new vibe. I can never get myself to buy expensive products, but my daughter has already started purchasing Marc Jacobs at the malls and online and showing me advertisements when she reads his name. She has become a greater fan than me. I have also attempted all of the assignments in the HUB although it doesn't reflect in my profile, thanks MasterClass but my fellow students have always acknowledged my work and kept me motivated to keep posting. I wish the Very Best to you All.

This class was highly enjoyable. Marc Jacob's is very articulate. His class went to so many places : sincere, discussion regarding having the confidence to pursue an idea, importance of collaboration and respect, the genesis of a collection, a commitment to stand by decisions even in hindsight. He is also is a reall New Yorker in all intents of the term: intense, cultivated, intellectual, savvy, straightforward, embacing high and low culture with zeal. Just a great class. I would like though to have seen more close up details of the clothing. And the historical clothing he was referencing. A suggestion is to explore how the choice of fabric will inform the design, or may not be appropriate not forcing it to do something it cant. 'The structural characteristics of fabric'. Idea: drape velvet on a form( with an idea to make something flowing) and through examintion/ discussion explore how another fabric may be a better choice. Let's see a muslin in various stages. Show reality however briefly. It would just be a series of case studies but may reveal something we can learn from. Offer another class with another fashion designer whomever you choose!
