Come on in, Jimmy. Hey, how are you? I'm good. Have a seat. Thank you, thank you. You doing OK? Yeah, I'm doing good. Great, great. As good as I can be. Yeah, good deal? Oh, yeah. So what are you going to play for us? A song called "Everywhere." Did you write it? Yes. How long ago? Oh, I think we wrote it in like-- let me see and think back. Like, February. Oh, this year. Yeah, this year. OK. You write a lot? Too much. What, how can you write too much? Nah, I think I write too much to the point where, sometimes, I realize I need to live in between songs so I can have something to write about. Yeah. You know. And I went on this binge, where I wrote every day for about two and a half, three months. Then it got to the point where I was like, I've got nothing else to say. Come visit with me. I'll tell you a lot of stuff. That's what I need. That's what I need. You need to hang out with some depressing people and get some ideas, huh? I'm telling you. Because I write-- say I'll write a bunch, and then I'll write like eight terrible songs, and I'll write one OK one. Then I'll write one kind of good one. Then I'll write eight more terrible songs. There you go. You know, that's how it goes. Yeah. Well, I mean, Red Steagall, early in my career, he said, write every day. And I didn't, and I really regret that. Yeah. So good for you. Yeah, thank you. Thank you. Good for you. OK, well, play me your song. What's the name of it again? "All Over"? "Everywhere." "Everywhere." Wow, I was all around that one, wasn't I? You was all right. (SINGING) You know the black and white photo of the nurse and the sailor locking lips out in Times Square. And had a sunset kiss, this guy last July in that Marina del Rey salty air. And girl, I want to kiss you like that. Yeah, I want to kiss you like that. And up on top of the Empire State or by a campfire on Powell River Bank. French kiss on that love-locked bridge in Paris, make out on that old flower couch at your parents'. And right now, right here, I swear. Girl, I want to kiss you everywhere. Anywhere at all, up against the wall, or tangled in cotton sheets. From the curl on your neck to the small on your back. I have taken away some amazing points on stage technique and will immediately start to apply them. There truly was not one thing that was not relevant to the country music industry, all the information is invaluable. I will be watching again.

I started this class 4 weeks ago, since following her instructions I have noticed a difference in my voice, how to warm up and prepare, how to interact with fans, how to dress and how to make it in the music industry, sad the lessons are over. Thank you Reba, hope to be singing alongside you one day.

I took this for fun. I'm a fan of Reba forever so I thought I would take the class! It's easy to see why she's been so successful. The students got some great advice from an experienced artist. I hope they listened! Great class!!

Reba, 2 green kiwi fruit about 30 minutes before you go to sleep will help your lungs. They also are great for helping you go to sleep.

They saved the best 'til last. Reba sure knows exactly what the problem is, and how to solve it. Amazing that song that is sang without a break can be handled by breathing exercises.

This guy is very charming, and when he started performing for the camera and Reba, his dimples came out. The song is very clever, too—catchy and it has a double-entente. These two had a lot of fun in this session.

Great stuff in this one from both student and instructor. But the breathing problem is pretty apparent to me as a vocalist. He's singing: And UP on TOP of the EMpire STATE By a CAMPfire ON pie RIVer bank, French KISS on a LOVE like a BRIDGE in PARis Make OUT that OLD flower COUCH at your PARents and right NOW RIGHT here He seems to not be taking a breath ANYWHERE in there. It's un-natural and robbing his voice of power. The worst is the "parents and" which comes out as "parent's scent" which is really kind of... well you know... Instead it could have been: And up on top of the Empire State By a campfire on pie river bank (breath) French kiss on a love like a bridge in Paris Make out that old flower couch at your parents (breath) Right now Right here There you have no shortage of breath. Although, that first breath may be a bit short and you may be cutting the word bank a bit short there if you take it. If you know how to use that diaphragm like a vacuum you can suck some serious air in that second pause, if not the first. And above all else, it's NATURAL. It breaks Parents and And so it doesn't sound like "scent". It probably feels a little weird because the One of the 4/4 time is on the word AND. You've got something like this: Make OUT that OLD flower COUCH at your PARents and (rest) right NOW (rest) RIGHT here (rest) And what you need is this: Make OUT that OLD flower COUCH at your PARents (rest/breath) - RIGHT now (rest) RIGHT here (rest) By turning that "and" into a some air suction you've given yourself power to go into that chorus. And it's in a natural place where the "and" wasn't serving any real purpose, and you give yourself like a quarter note rest to suck in some air on. It FEELS good, like you're gathering power going into the chorus as opposed so some un-natural place to pause. I just realized that a significant part of what's going on here is he's trying to put that word "and" to emphasize the beat. He's uncomfortable letting that beat become a rest and so stuck in a meaningless word (and) to fill that beat. Let it be a rest and suck some serious air so you BELT out that chorus. Your mic will definitely pick up a breath that deep unless you can get out of it fast enough and even then it will still pick it up a bit because there's no way you're going to get 20 feet from it that fast. But, even if the mic captures that entire intake it feels like a natural place to take a breath, especially when you're emotional and you really want to emphasize that "right here! right now!" The "parents scent" comes from the fact that the beat is happening on the first syllable of PAR ents and then again on the word "AND". So, when it's "PARents AND" it sounds more like "PARents SAND" which is real easy to confuse with "PARents SCENT". But it's because the beat is on the word "and" which is a throw away word where the beat acts like a spotlight putting focus on it. That makes you want to make it be an important word and a noun or verb instead of a throwaway word like an article. So, the mind naturally just turns that word into something meaningful like "scent" except when you put the whole sentence together it's just kind of gross because and became scent. The sc melts together with the s at the end of parents and the ent of scent sounds too similar to "and". And with the stress of the syllable on "and", it makes you want to turn it into a noun. Forget about it entirely and drop the word "and" for a breath to "refuel" before going into the chorus.
