- __Fingerboard__: The fingerboard is a long strip of wood that extends along the neck and over the cello’s body. The cellist presses down on the strings with their left hand to make the notes. Cello players can also create the higher-pitched sound of artificial harmonics by simultaneously pressing two fingers on the same string without touching the fingerboard. The fingerboard also lends support and strength to the neck. Both the fingerboard and the pegs are often made of dense hardwood, like ebony.
